1949 Indian 249 Scout (Vertical)
Glenn from Carson City, Nevada, United States made available these photos of his 1949 Indian Scout 249 which has a vertical 2-cylinder engine with 440cc displacement and has just completed a full professional restoration.
Glenn: "This is the 5th vertical Indian I have restored and I have 2 more to be restored."
"This restoration included a complete engine overhaul. Also rebuilt the magneto (Yes, the coil rewound, an magnet remagnetized). The magneto system does not fire the spark plug on the cylinder in valve overlap like the coil conversions do, which has burned up at least one Indian that I'm aware of."
Glenn: "The wheels have been laced with stainless steel spokes. Original "Indian script" tires are installed for authinticity. They have lotsa tread life, but they are pushing 60 years old and show some cracking."
The Indian 249 vertical two cylinder in line motor has left foot shift and right foot rear brake.
Strangely enough, she has the kick start on the left side of the bike.
